Fuel Shortage

Kathmandu, Bangladesh. 2015

A severe fuel shortage has forced people in Nepal to travel on the roofs of buses, which generally is not allowed for safety reasons. Protesters have blocked a key border point with India since September, preventing the import of fuel and other supplies. Nepal has adopted a new Constitution aimed at bolstering its transformation from a Hindu Monarchy to a Secular Democracy, and minorities in the southern plains denounce the new constitution for failing to protect their rights.
